India Breaks the Guinness Record in Chess
Indians once again write their names in Guinness Book of World Records by making a new world record of highest number of players played chess simultaneously. On Friday in Ahmedabad 22,480 people played chess simultaneously, while the previous record was by the Mexico in 2006 with mark of 13,446 players played chess at a same time.
More than 20,000 students and 1,200 experts gathered at around 5.00 pm and played chess simultaneously to break the world record. Each expert took on 20 players. Another 200 experts were on standby. The event was organized by Gujarat State Chess Association, NIIT and the Gujarat Sports Authority after 10 months of preparation.
