Microsoft to Resume Updating Samsung WP7 Phones
After Microsoft's first major Windows Phone 7 update turned a number of devices -- particularly the Samsung Omnia 7 -- into bricks last week, the company halted upgrades to all Samsung devices but yesterday, Microsoft resumed its rollout of the update to Samsung devices. The patch is being sent out on a rolling schedule, so it's possible that even some non-Samsung WP7 users have not received the update.
The update was in preparation for a big update to the mobile platform which will give WP7 devices some performance upgrades and new features like cut and paste. However, up to 10 percent of users found their phones unusable after the update. Among those were Samsung Omnia 7 users. Microsoft and various others posted workaround for the problem but the software giant itself halted the update process for affected phones. Now, Microsoft is saying that it has “pinpointed and fixed problems preventing a small percentage of Windows Phones from installing the February software patch”.
The Windows Phone Blog had this to say about the delay: "During the past week the engineering team has pinpointed and fixed problems that were preventing a small percentage of Windows Phones from installing the February software patch. We apologize again for the delay and continue looking for ways to improve the update process."
