Bee Venom Used To Detect Explosives

We already know that bees play a very important role in our life to keep us nourished and healthy, while also equally important in agriculture by pollinating plants until now. But their importance increases more as Researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have revealed that bee venom can be used to detect explosives.

Bee venom contains protein fragments known as bombolitins, which can be used to detect single molecules of nitro-aromatic explosives such as TNT. By using bombolitins in sensors which are deployed at place like airports can increase their sensitivity thus provide more accurate results.
