A scholarship competition of Instituto Europeo di Design’s School of Transportation Design, the “TAKHT LAHORI” by Pakistani designer Ali Murtaza is an articulated, zero emission bus that apart from allowing safe and brisk commutation in Lahore city, the second thickly populated city in Pakistan, will also help in improving the surrounding environment.
Powered exclusively by motors located within the wheels that come with an active suspension and regenerative braking, the bus concept also features an “Active Bumper” to provide a mechanical, airbag-powered crumple zone on all sides.

The in-wheel motors are backed by Lithium-ion batteries that can be charged by either integrated 3D photovoltaic panels or a regular A/C plug. Combining the classic patterns of the great Mughal Empire with hi-tech designing, the TAKHT LAHORI presents a retro futuristic design to become a modern cultural symbol of public transportation.
