Apple’s potential fifth-generation iPhone, the iPhone 5, will feature aluminum back rather than the glass back that was introduced with the iPhone 4Apple's iPhone 5 will feature an aluminum back and lack that troublesome exterior antenna rim, according to the latest rumors. The iPhone 5 would be using the same A5 System on Chip processor that has been used in the iPad 2. Rumors state that the iPhone 5 would be unveiled at the Apple's World Wide Developer Conference 2011 starting June 5 and would hit the production floors July 6 onwards.
Based on the information acquired by the folks at Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, Apple is pushing ahead with an iPhone 5 design that is similar to the iPod Touch. Rumors aside, just thinking about the idea would suggest that Apple may dump their use of glass in favor of aluminum to reduce both the weight of the iPhone 5 and to increase its resistance to scratches as well. As we have been reading in recent weeks, Apple is apparently taking “scratch resistant” surfaces and coatings very seriously. As a result, the iPhone 5 will probably be the most scratch-proof handset in the existence of the iPhone.
Along with that, Apple will also change the external steel frame that is used as an antenna to get over the Antennagate possibilities. Earlier, we had reported about Apple's Logo Antenna patent and it appears that the same would be used in Apple gadgets as well. An EDN report hints that the iPhone 5's antenna will rest behind the logo surrounded by special resin designed to allow cellular and Wi-Fi signals penetration. So basically, the iPhone 5 will have new Logo Antenna technology which will have the cellular and Wi-Fi antenna stuck behind the logo on the aluminum back panel.
